By Zuhair Murad
For Fall/Winter 2026/27, Zuhair Murad took haute couture into a mysterious world of romance, darkness, and fantasy. Presented in Paris on July 8, the collection explored the contrast between strength and vulnerability, imagining a woman who is both fiercely independent and deeply romantic.
A Secret Garden After Dark
The collection was built around the idea of a “secret garden” a hidden world where beauty, mystery, and imagination come together. Rather than presenting a traditionally bright vision of couture, Murad transformed the garden into a nocturnal landscape filled with deep green, burgundy, black, and luminous tones.
The result was a dark couture fairytale, with the collection balancing shadow and light, softness and strength. Vogue Arabia described the presentation as a world of smoke, butterflies, feathers, shadowed florals, and dramatic silhouettes.
Romance Meets Strength
At the heart of the collection was Murad’s fascination with duality. The woman he imagined is not defined by a single characteristic. She can be powerful and independent while remaining romantic and emotionally expressive.
That idea translated into silhouettes that alternated between structured tailoring and fluid eveningwear. A sharply tailored black coat could appear alongside an elaborate gown, while sculptural velvet pieces were softened by delicate embroidery, feathers, and sparkling embellishment.
Flowers, Butterflies and Nighttime Beauty
Nature became one of the strongest visual elements of the collection. Roses appeared to grow across velvet bodices and gowns, while butterflies and night birds were incorporated into intricate couture embellishment.
Feathers added movement and drama, particularly when layered over tulle decorated with sequins, crystals, and beads. Elsewhere, embroidered details gave the garments an almost enchanted quality, reinforcing the collection’s secret-garden narrative.
A Rich Couture Palette
Murad moved away from a conventional winter palette and instead embraced saturated, atmospheric shades. Deep green, burgundy, black, jade, and amethyst created a sense of nighttime glamour, while blush and softer tones provided contrast.
Velvet played an especially important role, giving the collection depth and richness. Satin, tulle, lace, sequins, crystal, and intricate beadwork added contrasting textures and allowed the garments to catch the light as they moved.
The Art of Movement
Although Zuhair Murad is renowned for elaborate eveningwear, the Fall/Winter 2026/27 collection also placed emphasis on movement and ease. Draped gowns, flowing fabrics, asymmetrical silhouettes, and feathered layers gave the collection a sense of motion rather than making the clothes feel overly rigid.
One standout example was a jade-green velvet gown with an asymmetrical drape, while a deep-amethyst strapless gown demonstrated how Murad could create impact through color and silhouette without relying entirely on embellishment.
Couture as a Dark Fairytale
With its secret-garden inspiration, nocturnal colors, romantic florals, butterflies, feathers, and dazzling craftsmanship, Zuhair Murad’s Fall/Winter 2026/27 Couture collection feels like a modern fairytale after sunset.
The collection captures the designer’s signature glamour while introducing a darker, more mysterious atmosphere. It is a celebration of a woman who can embrace romance without sacrificing independence a central tension that gives the collection its emotional character.
For Zuhair Murad, Fall/Winter 2026/27 is ultimately about the beauty of what remains hidden: a secret garden, a mysterious night, and a woman whose strength exists alongside her softness.
