Acne Studios has never been interested in clothing that behaves exactly as expected. For Spring 2027, founder and Creative Director Jonny Johansson turns his attention to one of fashion’s most familiar environments the office and transforms its rules into a playground for experimentation.
First presented as menswear in June, the Spring 2027 collection explores workplace hierarchies, personal identity and the subtle ways people communicate through clothes. Acne Studios’ September 30 Paris show continues the house’s Spring 2027 fashion-week story as the brand marks its 30th anniversary.
Rather than treating corporate dressing as something rigid, Johansson approaches it as a collection of characters, uniforms and contradictions. Suits become less formal. Denim becomes more polished. Sportswear slips into tailoring. Familiar pieces are distorted, layered and remixed.
The result is an Acne Studios collection that feels simultaneously nostalgic and completely contemporary.
The Office Becomes a Fashion Playground
The starting point for Spring 2027 was the office and, more specifically, the social dynamics that exist within it.
Johansson described his interest in the “unspoken hierarchies” of workplace life, using clothing as a way to explore how people establish identity and status without necessarily saying anything.
That idea gives the collection its central tension.
The traditional office wardrobe suits, shirts, ties, trousers, vests and polished shoes is recognizable throughout the collection, but very little remains conventional. Acne Studios takes these familiar pieces apart and puts them back together with a more irreverent attitude.
The office worker is no longer required to look like everyone else.
Instead, each person seems to have developed their own uniform.
Tailoring Gets a Swedish Acne Studios Twist
Tailoring remains one of the collection’s strongest foundations, but Johansson avoids the stiffness normally associated with corporate dressing.
Suits are broken apart and reconstructed. Corporate vests appear alongside sporty satin blousons, while leather jackets take the place of conventional suit jackets. The contrast creates an interesting collision between professionalism and individuality.
There is also something deliberately relaxed about the tailoring.
Rather than presenting the perfect corporate silhouette, Acne Studios allows pieces to look inherited, modified or personalized. Jackets and trousers feel as though they could have travelled through several wardrobes before arriving at this imaginary office.
That sense of history is important to Johansson’s design language. The house often takes familiar wardrobe staples and gives them an unexpected proportion, material or styling treatment.
For Spring 2027, the office uniform becomes less about conformity and more about character.
Denim Remains at the Heart of Acne Studios
If there is one material that naturally belongs to Acne Studios, it is denim.
The brand began in 1996 with 100 pairs of raw selvedge jeans, distinguished by red stitching, and denim has remained an important part of its identity.
For Spring 2027, Johansson continues that conversation rather than abandoning it.
The collection references the brand’s 1996 and 1979 denim codes while introducing slimmer cuts in vivid colors and hybrid designs that blur the boundaries between jeans and tailored trousers. Some pleated denim pieces possess the appearance of mid-1980s slacks, creating a clever dialogue between denim’s casual history and traditional office dressing.
Studded denim also introduces a tougher, rock-and-roll attitude.
It is one of the collection’s most recognizable Acne Studios signatures: taking something ordinary and giving it just enough disruption to become something else.
Trompe-l’œil and the Art of Illusion
One of the more playful elements of the collection is Johansson’s use of trompe-l’œil.
Ties and pockets appear to have been sketched directly onto T-shirts, almost like office doodles. Elsewhere, pocket lining is deliberately exposed beneath twill shorts.
These details may look humorous at first, but they also express the collection’s larger idea.
Why should an office uniform actually need to be formal?
Why can’t a T-shirt contain the visual suggestion of a tie?
Why should a pocket remain hidden if showing it makes the garment more interesting?
Acne Studios uses these small interventions to question the conventions behind everyday dressing.
A Palette That Moves From Corporate to Playful
Color also helps dismantle the traditional office uniform.
The collection moves through monochromatic white before introducing softer, almost confectionary shades such as pink and pistachio.
These colors soften the seriousness of tailoring and make the workplace concept feel less literal.
The result is not simply an office wardrobe rendered in fashion colors. Instead, the color palette becomes another way of suggesting different personalities within the same environment.
One employee might arrive in restrained monochrome. Another wears pastel tailoring. Someone else chooses bright denim, leather or patterned knitwear.
The workplace becomes a collection of individual wardrobes rather than a single dress code.
Argyle, Knitwear and the Feeling of Inheritance
Spring 2027 also embraces pieces that feel as though they have been passed down.
Argyle patterns appear in unexpected combinations, while knit cardigans carry an intentionally reclaimed, almost inherited quality.
This introduces another layer to the collection’s office narrative.
Clothing does not only communicate professional status; it carries memory.
A cardigan can suggest family. A tie can suggest authority. A leather jacket can suggest rebellion. Denim can suggest youth. A suit can suggest ambition.
Johansson brings these different cultural associations into the same wardrobe.
That is what makes the collection feel less like a literal office uniform and more like a study of how people use clothing to construct themselves.
Footwear Takes the Uniform Somewhere Else
The footwear continues the collection’s refusal to settle into one category.
Acne Studios pairs embellished sandals with socks, introduces color-blocked brogues and pointy ankle boots with Cuban heels, while exaggerated cowboy boots appear in soft leather and crocodile-effect finishes.
There is something deliberately contradictory about these combinations.
The brogue belongs naturally to traditional office dressing, but its exaggerated color treatment changes its character. Cowboy boots introduce Western references into the corporate wardrobe. Sandals and socks undermine conventional ideas of polished footwear altogether.
Accessories follow the same philosophy.
Narrow lightweight scarves, gradient-painted fringed bags and sunglasses ranging from oversized metal aviators to angular acetate frames add individual personality to otherwise recognizable looks.
The Acne Studios Philosophy: Familiar, But Never Ordinary
For almost three decades, Acne Studios has built its identity around the tension between the familiar and the unexpected.
The Stockholm-based house describes its approach as multidisciplinary, drawing from photography, art, architecture and contemporary culture. Its collections are shaped by Johansson’s interest in juxtaposition and detail.
That philosophy is particularly visible in Spring 2027.
Nothing here needs to be completely unfamiliar.
A blazer is still a blazer.
Jeans are still jeans.
A cardigan remains a cardigan.
A brogue remains a brogue.
But Acne Studios changes the context.
A leather jacket becomes office tailoring. Denim borrows the language of trousers. A T-shirt pretends to be a shirt and tie. Sportswear enters the corporate wardrobe. Traditional patterns are mixed with unexpected colors.
The collection demonstrates how much creative possibility exists inside ordinary clothing.
A Collection About Individuality
Ultimately, Acne Studios Spring 2027 is less about the office itself than the people inside it.
The collection imagines a workplace where hierarchy is visible through clothing, but where those hierarchies can also be disrupted. Johansson’s characters do not necessarily dress according to their supposed position.
The receptionist might have the most interesting wardrobe.
The employee might dress more creatively than the boss.
The person with the least authority might have the strongest visual identity.
That tension gives the collection its humor and its humanity.
It also feels particularly relevant to contemporary fashion, where the boundaries between workwear, streetwear, luxury and personal style continue to dissolve.
Acne Studios Spring 2027: The New Uniform
With Spring 2027, Acne Studios takes one of fashion’s oldest subjects the uniform and asks what happens when the wearer becomes more important than the rules.
Jonny Johansson does not completely reject tailoring, denim, knitwear or traditional office dressing. Instead, he rearranges them.
The collection moves between polished and undone, masculine and playful, inherited and new, corporate and rebellious. Its most interesting moments come from these contradictions.
For a brand approaching its 30th anniversary, it is an appropriate direction. Acne Studios began with a simple pair of jeans and grew into a multidisciplinary fashion house without losing its fascination with everyday clothing.
Spring 2027 continues that evolution.
The office may have rules, but Acne Studios is interested in what happens when everyone decides to break them differently.
